Data Center Ordinance Discussion
On September 29, 2026, the City of Center Point held a joint City Council and Planning & Zoning special work session to establish policy direction for a permanent data center ordinance. The group focused on impacts repeatedly highlighted in Eastern Iowa: water supply and quality, electrical demand, noise and low-frequency sound, setbacks and compatibility, roads and construction, emergency response, environmental protection, long-term monitoring, decommissioning, and cumulative effects.
Please note that the City of Center Point has not been contacted regarding a potential data center development. The City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission are simply being proactive and preparing for the possibility of future interest, with a focus on protecting and advancing the community's best interests.
