Center Point Historical Society
The Center Point Historical Society meets the last Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Depot Museum, 700 E. Washington. Guests are very welcome. No meeting in December and sometimes the January and February meetings are held in private homes. Please call 319-721-6948 to check.
The Depot Museum and Strait Log Cabin are open, free of charge, Sundays 2-4, from the first Sunday in May through the second Sunday in October.
Special activities in 2022 are:
Friday, May 3 – Museum open for All School Reunion with special school exhibits, 5-8 p.m.
Saturday, May 4 – All School Reunion sponsored by the Historical Society: tours of all four school buildings in a.m.; noon banquet and program; Museum open 9-11:30 a.m. and 3:30-6 p.m.
Sunday, May 5 – Museum open 11-4.
Sunday, July 31 – free program 2 p.m. at Museum on one-room schools by Ann Cejka, Usher’s Ferry.
Sunday, Aug. 28 – Free, Annual Log Cabin Festival, Underground Railroad theme; 2 p.m. talk by Jenny Barnett, African American Museum of Iowa; quilt exhibit.
Sunday, Sept. 18 – Annual Center Point Cemetery Walk, 4 p.m. (in case of rain, at Museum with slides.)
Saturday, Oct. 8 – Annual community Harvest Potluck at Library Community Room, 6 p.m. Free program at 7 on “Gone With the Wind” and Civil War by Kathy Wilson, Historical Perspectives, Marion. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Center Point Library.
